Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association Plans Learn to Row Classes

Interested in rowing in the heart of Buffalo and enjoying unique sites such as the grain elevators and Canalside from the water? Looking for a good workout, want to learn a new skill or just have some fun with a great bunch of people?

The Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association (BSRA) will host six Learn to Row classes for adults from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 to 10 a.m. Sundays from Aug. 13-24. Participants will meet at the BSRA boathouse at 405 Ohio St. in Buffalo, and the cost is $200 for the six sessions. BUFFALO, N.Y. – LPCiminelli announced three of its projects have been recognized for their quality and excellence. Evergreen Lofts was honored as a top historic preservation project in New York State, while the Buffalo High-Tech Manufacturing Innovation Hub at Riverbend and the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority’s U.S. Customs Plaza Commercial Building earned distinctions as top projects in the Buffalo Niagara region.

Buffalo to Welcome Statewide  MedTech Conference a Second Time

Today, MedTech, the association connecting New York State’s bioscience and medical technology industry through collaboration, education, and advocacy, announced that its annual conference will return to Buffalo, marking the first time a city has hosted the event twice. MedTech also unveiled this year’s conference theme: ‘DisruptNY: Harnessing the Power of Partnership.’

The annual MedTech conference is the largest gathering of executives and senior leaders from New York State’s bioscience and medical technology (bio/med) industry, with more than 300 business leaders from international, national, and regional organizations expected to attend the conference between October 30 and 31 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Buffalo. MedTech also held its 2015 conference in Buffalo, which saw nearly 300 attendees.

Vendors Lining Up for First Annual Collectors’ Expo Event at Buffalo Irish Center

Sports memorabilia, original artwork and handcrafted items, coins, music memorabilia, comic books, antiques, local products, political memorabilia, movie and theatre memorabilia, photography, and car and train collectibles are just some of the items that will be represented at the first annual Collectors’ Expo. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in the historic Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

Admission at the door will be just $2 per person. Food will also be available for purchase during the event thanks to the Irish Center kitchen staff. Additionally, 100 percent of the door proceeds will be donated to three South Buffalo organizations, including the Buffalo Irish Center, South Buffalo Alive and Dog Ears Bookstore & Café!

Audubon’s July 29 Wild 5K Run/Walk Part of Runner of the Year Series

Jamestown, NY – Whatever your age, whether you like to run or if walking is more your speed, there’s a spot for you at Audubon Community Nature Center’s Wild 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 29.

Race day schedule is

  • 8-8:45 a.m.:  Same-day registration
  • 9 a.m.: Race begins
  • 10:30 a.m.: Award ceremony begins for those who have completed the race

Prizes will be awarded to the first three overall male and female walker and runner finishers. Age group awards will be given to the top three finishers in each for runners and top finisher in each for walkers. Age groups are 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

Audubon Part of July 29-30 Wild America Nature Festival at Panama Rocks

Jamestown, NY – With the opportunity to celebrate nature and all things inspired by it plus fun and activities for all ages, the staff and volunteers at Audubon Community Nature Center are looking forward to being part of the inaugural Wild America Nature Festival.

The two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30, is hosted by Jamestown, New York’s Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History (RTPI) and Panama Rocks Scenic Park. Panama Rocks is the amazing natural wonder where Wild America is being held in Panama, New York.

The Festival will feature wild animals, a juried fine nature art and craft show and competition, a local food cook-off competition and farmers market, and classes, workshops, music, and talks by well-known speakers and artists. It is planned to raise awareness of nature and the environment, encourage sustainable enjoyment of the environment, promote conservation of our natural world, and have fun celebrating Wild America.

CrossFit Event to Benefit Matt Urban Hope Center

CrossFit Nickel City (CFNC), 247 Virginia St., Buffalo, will host its second annual In-House Invitational CrossFit Competition from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, with all proceeds to benefit the Matt Urban Hope Center.

The Matt Urban Hope Center is a community-focused agency based on the East Side of Buffalo. Its mission is to provide programs that enhance the quality of life, preserve neighborhoods and encourage economic development. The Hope Center responds to the needs of the community by hosting family-focused events, informative workshops, free tax preparation, benefits screening, housing and job assistance. The staff assists individuals who are homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless, and also serves five dinners per week that are free to the community.
