Erie County Legislature Approves Redistricting Plan

BUFFALO, NY--  Erie County Lawmakers approved a controversial plan by Democrats to re-draw district lines.

The plan, which downsizes the legislature from 15 to 11 seats, puts 13 towns and seven villages into a single district, stretching from Brant to Newstead.

That mega-district it takes up 45-percent of the of land in Erie County, causing some residents to be concerned over whether or not they'll be fairly represented.

Erie County Executive Chris Collins released this statement after the vote:

"Now that the County Legislature has finally acted, I have a specific plan before me for review. However, I do have serious concerns with this law, concerns that are shared by our rural towns and minority community. I will vet this plan thoroughly, and hold a public hearing according to the County Charter, before making my decision whether to sign or veto this law in the coming days."

NFTA To Sell Two Pieces Of Prime Waterfront Land

Buffalo, N.Y. - If you're looking for some prime waterfront land in Buffalo, the NFTA may have a deal for you.

The NFTA is putting up for sale the Small Boat Harbor and a 60 acre piece of vacant property adjacent to it that contain two warehouses.

The reason - over the coming years, the Authority estimates it would need to spend as much as $50 million on improvements and upkeep.

Now if it seems like the NFTA has owned waterfront land forever, there's a good reason.

The City of Buffalo deeded the Outer Harbor land to what was then the "Niagara Frontier Port Authority" 55 years ago when the area was looking to expand its bustling port and shipping business.

That business was crippled by the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, but the NFTA held on to the land for all these years and did very little with it.

Scott Brown: "Do you think the NFTA owes an apology to the community for not doing more with that property over the years?"
