Buffalo’s Tomb of the Unknowns: Final Resting Place of 300 War of 1812 US Soldiers

BUFFALO, NEW YORK: It is one of Buffalo’s most historic, but little known sacred sites. Located at the center of the Delaware Park Golf Course is an unmarked mass grave that is the final resting spot for 300 War of 1812 American soldiers.

To raise public awareness of the “Mound in the Meadow” and to honor its buried soldiers, Parkside Historian and Author Steve Cichon will lead a group of volunteers in the planting of 300 American flags near the site on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th at 9:45am. Those interested in attending may access the site by entering Delaware Park’s Ring Road at Colvin Avenue (Enter Park at Colvin and Amherst).

New Slogan: We Want Your Suggestions!

New Slogan: We Want Your Suggestions!

Western New York is under fire from a New York City based magazine for the new “Buffalo: For Real” campaign, which it has dubbed a laughing stock.

Advertising Age and its writers claim:

“Tourism slogans are reliably corny, but last week New York state took the grand prize for "Huh?" with a newly anointed slogan for its fair city to the north that's best known for its proximity to Niagara Falls and everyone's favorite 25-cent bar snack.”

To add insult to injury, in a recent Skype interview with 2 On Your Side’s own Marissa Bailey, the writer of the article, Rupal Parekh, said she and her colleagues at Ad Age "had a good laugh" about the new slogan.

Jersey Barriers Removed from Statler Site

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Public Works Commissioner Steve Stepniak and Statler owner Mark Croce were on hand to provide an update of on-going work at the downtown landmark.

Wednesday morning, jersey barriers, a fixture outside the hotel for months were removed and replaced with reinforced sidewalk barriers. The jersey barriers were put in place following several incidents of falling debris and concerns about stability of the iconic structure.

Mayor Brown said the new barriers, which owner Croce calls the best you can buy, will allow visitors to walk past the Statler without fear of injury. Croce says he hopes to have them removed before winter, at least on the Delaware Avenue side of the building.
