Blossom Hill Farm Offers a Healthy Alternative to the Supermarket

Blossom Hill Farm may be located in the hills of Dayton, but they can be found every Saturday at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, May through December. And that’s great news to their many followers and fans.

“We began raising meat for our family after we started learning about how animals were raised and sold commercially,” said Jo’El Drajem. “Our ideology is to give our animals the best life possible without the use of growth hormones, steroids and fed antibiotics. We raise our animals the way nature intended.”

And that, in a nutshell, is what sets Blossom Hill Farm products far above the competition.

“We specialize in pasture-raised heritage meats,” added Jo’El. “We raise and sell beef, pork, chickens and eggs. Our beef is a Lowline Angus cross. Occasionally we have breeding stock heifers available and perfect 4H prospects. Our hogs are Tamsworth and Old Spots and Large Blacks, all listed on the Livestock Breed Conservatory. And our chickens are Buckeyes; they are heritage chickens that take a lot longer to grow and they have more flavor than the commercial fast-growing birds.

“All of our processed meats have no nitrates and organic seasoning. We travel far to make that option available to our customers and as far as we know we are the only pork producer in Western New York offering this healthy alternative.

“Because our animals are on pasture and in the sunshine, they are healthy and thrive. Animals in captivity are fed a diet of antibiotics just to keep them alive in filthy conditions. We started the farm with only the best for our family and now extend this care and dedication to you. We hope you enjoy the quality of the product we provide and enjoy the little bit of the farm that we offer to you.”

This winter, Blossom Hill customers can look for them at the WNY Home & Garden Expo, February 10-13 at The Fairgrounds Event Center and Expo Hall in Hamburg. The farm also welcomes visits for purchases, by appointment. Please call 863-8205 to schedule your visit.
