Michael G. Caty, M.D., M.M.M., Surgeon-in-Chief, Director of Pediatric Surgical Services, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Professor of Surgery & Pediatrics, University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, was recently elected to the Executive Committee of the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

After a six year term on the committee, Dr. Caty will become Chairman of the Surgical Section.

Dr. Caty is Board Certified in Pediatric and General Surgery. His clinical interests include neonatal surgery, thoracic surgery, intestinal motility disorders, pediatric surgical oncology, pediatric laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. His research interests are concentrated on the pathophysiology of intestinal ischemia, reperfusion and surgical innovation.

Dr. Caty is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Shock Society and Association for Academic Surgery and the Society of University Surgeons.

He joined the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo in 1993.

The Department of Pediatric Surgery at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo was established in 1957 and specializes in general and thoracic surgery for the care of fetuses, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents and young adults.  This training program in Pediatric Surgery is one of the original nine training programs in Pediatric Surgery in the United States.

Women & Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the region to have all pediatric surgical sub-specialists for neurosurgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, dental and urology.  The team of board certified pediatric anesthesiologists also receive training to meet the special needs of children and are among the few nationally who specialize in pediatrics. 

Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, a Kaleida Health facility and teaching hospital for the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, is the regional center for specialized pediatric, perinatal and obstetrical services in Western New York and beyond.
