Rally Planned to Protest County Arts Funding Cuts

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A group of concerned citizens is organizing a rally for Monday, October 25, at 4 p.m. on the steps of County Hall, 95 Franklin Street, to protest the "zeroing off 33 arts organizations by Erie County Executive Chris Collins," according to a statement from Joyce Stilson, one of the rally organizers.

The county budget for next year that Collins recently sent to the Erie County legislature eliminates funding for all but 10 select cultural organizations the executive considers best able to draw visitors from outside the region.

"Artists, technicians, designers, actors, musicians, administrators and arts supporters," says Stilson, "will attend the rally as workers at County Hall exit from their Monday jobs."

She said a flash mob is planned as part of the rally. The public is encouraged to attend.
