Tracks To The Past Appear Downtown
News

BUFFALO, N.Y. - It's been more than a half century since streetcars ran along the streets of downtown Buffalo, but downtown construction has revealed a bit of the past. At least for the time being.

On Eagle Street between Washington and Ellicott, crews are milling the street surface in the process of repaving. Well, a piece of Buffalo's transportation history has been revealed.

In the middle of the street you can now see the old streetcar rails and cobblestones of the past.

The rails were part of the Clinton Street route that started at Main and Clinton and ran along Clinton, Main, Eagle and Emslie. That line ended service in 1948. Now, in 2010, the tracks are experiencing a short-lived return, before the construction crew covers them up. That is, until the next paving project.
