Iskalo Development Corp. and Greenwood Hospitality today announced the hiring of Karen Oleszak as general manager and Susie Pieri as director of sales and marketing for Reikart House, a boutique hotel inspired by a vaudevillian couple known as the Town of Amherst’s “first family of hospitality.”
“Our new general manager and director of sales and marketing both bring extensive hospitality backgrounds to Reikart House, with each having spent more than twenty years in the industry,” said Paul B. Iskalo, founder, president and CEO of Iskalo Development Corp. “As construction continues at the former Lord Amherst, we were adamant about hiring of top-level management talent in order to ensure delivery of the unique guest experience that we are striving to provide at the Northtowns’ first full-service, upscale hotel.”
Ms. Oleszak was most recently general manager for the Staybridge Suites, Buffalo-Airport. Prior to the Staybridge Suites, she spent eighteen years within the Marriott system of hotels in hospitality sales and management, where she earned a number of awards.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this team and help bring an authentic, upscale hotel like Reikart House to the Western New York community,” stated Ms. Oleszak. “True to the inspiration of the Reikart House brand and its namesakes, Frank and Dolly Reikart, we look forward to delivering an enjoyable, relaxing and most importantly, memorable guest experience.”
Ms. Pieri was most recently at the Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER, with markets including Catering Sales and Entertainment Groups. Pieri’s previous roles include sales and director positions at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, Adam’s Mark and Buffalo Niagara Marriott Hotel. She is a board member of the Buffalo Urban League and is Leadership Buffalo graduate.
“Having worked at some of the region’s largest full-service hotels, the chance to lead the sales team for an intimate, boutique hotel like Reikart House is extremely invigorating,” said Ms. Pieri. “From the feedback I’ve already received, there is genuine excitement and anticipation for the opening of the hotel this spring. People are looking for the kind of unique guest experience that Reikart House will offer.”
The name “Reikart House” is inspired by Frank and Dolly Reikart, a vaudevillian couple that relocated to Amherst in the early 1900s and became known as the Town of Amherst’s “first family of hospitality.” The Reikarts, along with their pet capuchin monkey, Jacko, entertained local residents and visitors and operated a variety of businesses including a barbershop, photography studio and ice cream parlor. In addition to informing hotel feel and amenities, the Reikart name will also influence the service rituals provided by hotel staff, thereby creating a boutique, upscale and comfortable guest experience.
Iskalo Development Corp. recently showcased construction progress on the 92-room, upscale, boutique hotel. Redevelopment is well underway at 5000 Main Street, the site of the former Lord Amherst Motor Lodge, originally designed by Duane Lyman, who was referred to as the “Dean of Western New York Architecture.”
Reikart House is scheduled to open in the spring of 2017. Colorado-based Greenwood Hospitality will operate the hotel. To learn more, visit: ReikartHouse.com.
