The Martin Group Completes Renovation of Historic Building in Buffalo's Theater District

The Martin Group (TMG), a leading integrated communications firm with offices in Buffalo and Rochester, NY, today announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters, following the completion of a multimillion dollar renovation of the historic 620 Main Street building in downtown Buffalo’s Theatre District.

“We are thrilled to be moving two blocks north to a building that, over the course of nearly 100 years, has been home to several companies that have played a significant role in Buffalo’s history,” said Tod Martin, president and chief creative officer of The Martin Group. “Opening the doors of our new headquarters marks an expansion of the firm’s capabilities and the services we provide to our clients, through added office and meeting space, equipment and new technologies. This building, located in the heart of the city’s Theatre District and downtown core, is an investment in The Martin Group and also in the revitalization underway here and across Upstate New York.”

Originally erected in 1919, 620 Main Street is an 18,000 square-foot building with three floors and a functional sub-level. The structure is one of the most refined neoclassical designs in the City of Buffalo. The Roman architectural style features details including four columns on the Main Street side of the building, paneled pilasters, ornamental iron railings and a pediment and dentils. The building was designed by Esenwein & Johnson, an architectural firm that, at the time, boasted a portfolio of notable projects including the Calumet Building, Electric Tower, Lafayette High School and the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Following Tod Martin’s purchase of the building, extensive interior renovations were completed by internationally-renowned architectural firm Cannon Design and Lehigh Construction Group. The renovation of 620 Main Street qualified for the use of state and federal historic tax credits, and The Martin Group has engaged Preservation Studios to assist in the utilization of those credits.

“The symbolism of our move to this location is not lost on any member of our team. 620 Main Street was the former home of Levy, King & White, the premiere Buffalo agency when I started my career in advertising,” continued Martin. “And after more than 16 years in business, The Martin Group is proud to tip our caps to 620 Main Street’s former owners and tenants – including several advertising greats – as we blaze a fresh trail in our new home.”

TMG employs a workforce of more than 50 associates and has offices in Buffalo and Rochester, with annual billings totaling nearly $15 million. TMG also includes Martin Davison Public Relations, the firm’s public relations affiliate, which has become Upstate New York’s fastest growing PR firm.

TMG’s relocation to 620 Main Street makes its former home, 477 Main Street, available for lease.
