Faced with a landfill nearing capacity, the Delaware Solid Waste Authority awarded a contract to Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. of Niagara Falls to construct a mechanically stabilized earth berm that is being recognized for its innovative design.  Sevenson was the prime contractor on the Cherry Island Landfill Vertical Expansion Project in Wilmington, Del., one of five finalists for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2012 award for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement.

'Black Friday' Comes to Lewiston

Year after year, scores of Lewistonians awake in the middle of the night on the day after Thanksgiving to head out to chain stores and kick-start their holiday shopping.

It's a popular tradition ... that Lewiston retailers hope to end this week.

Village merchants are making a pitch for consumers to spend "Black Friday" in Lewiston. Ten locally owned and operated stores are offering special deals and door-busters, giveaways, discounts and free gift-wrapping.

Senator Kennedy Announces Upcoming Deadline for NY Youth Works Employment Program

Kennedy reminds residents that youth must apply for certification in NY Youth Works program by December 31, 2012. Businesses must apply for certification by November 30, 2012.

NY Youth Works helps address unemployment among inner-city youth with job-training for applicants and tax credits for employers.

Kennedy encourages more businesses to get involved in NY Youth Works to help alleviate unemployment in City of Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. –  Senator Tim Kennedy, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Economic Development Committee, announced the quickly-approaching deadline for Buffalo youth to take advantage of the NY Youth Works program. To participate, individuals must apply for certification from the NYS Department of Labor by December 31, 2012.

Clerk Jacobs and Marrano Homes Mark Milestone with “THANK-A-VET” Discount Program

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs, along with “THANK-A-VET” participating merchant Marrano Homes hosted a Veterans Day Outreach, where veterans were invited to enroll in the County Clerk’s “THANK-A-VET” Discount Program. The event was held in one of Marrano’s new innovative green model homes located in Princeton Estates in West Seneca.

“The program is a way for us to recognize the service and sacrifices made by the over 53,000 veterans in Erie County,” Jacobs said.  “I am delighted that Marrano Homes enlisted in our “THANK-A-VET” initiative and offers such generous discounts to veterans who purchase one of their new homes.”

This event also served to mark the programs milestone of signing-on over 350 businesses throughout Erie County and issuing over 2,000 Discount Cards to area veterans. Marrano Homes was one of the first merchants to sign-on to the program soon after Jacobs took office.
