What Happens When Buffalo Goes to Vegas....

After a long and dreary winter it was time for some action.  I couldn’t think of a better place to feel alive again than Las Vegas, Nevada.  So last Wednesday I packed up my suitcase, grabbed my friend, Marilynn, and hit the airport.  When we arrived it was 9:30am and it was already 92 degrees.  By mid afternoon we were lounging at the Cosmopolitan Hotel pool in 109 degree heat.

When we planned the trip a few weeks ago we had no idea anyone else from Buffalo would be there but we ended up finding ourselves in quite a Western New York re-union.  The first night we were there the Palms Hotel was hosting the NHL Awards.  A friend of ours was there for the awards and we were able to hang out at the after party where we met John Hamm from the television show "Mad Men".

Thursday night we met up with some friends on the Buffalo Bills who were staying at the Wynn Hotel for a charity event held by Garth Brooks.  The Teammates for Kids foundation has thousands of players from different professional sports teams as active, donating members.  Buffalo Bills Eric Wood, Andy Levitre, David Nelson, and Brian Brohm are all part of the foundation and got to enjoy a pre-party, dinner, private concert, and meet and greet with Garth and his wife, Trisha Yearwood.

My friend and I were fortunate enough to attend the breathtaking concert and meet and greet with the two incredibly down to earth superstars.  Wide receiver David Nelson got quite a surprise during the concert when he heard Trisha Yearwood say “Will David Nelson from the Buffalo Bills please come up on stage?”  Nelson and a friend won a karaoke contest the night before the concert and got the chance to sing “Friends in Low Places” with the superstars during the show.

It was amazing to see the NHL and NFL players, celebrities in their own right, so excited and honored to meet one of their favorite musicians.

Teammates for Kids was created to provide financial assistance to children’s charities around the world.  The organization has grown to include over 2,500 professional athletes.  The athletes donate a predetermined amount based on their personal performance and the foundation triples all donations from the athletes.  Best of all one hundred percent of the donations go straight to the children.  Since its establishment in 1999, the foundation has raised more than 80 million dollars for children around the world.

You can find out more about the foundation on it's website: http://www.teammatesforkids.com/

I couldn’t be prouder to know that friends and Buffalo sports players are contributing to such a wonderful cause and having a great time in the process.

Till the next adventure surfaces,

Katie
