Ten Easy Things the Broadway Market Can Do to be a Year-Round Destination

As the Easter season begins at the Broadway Market today and it becomes the busiest place in Buffalo for the next two weeks, I am going to post a series of ten articles on what the Market can do easily to become a year-round destination for shoppers.

When you shop at the Broadway Market year-round, Easter time is a surreal experience. The place is packed with customers and vendors alike. Then, come in a week after Easter and the market is almost ghost-like. It is that way for most of the rest of the year. I can't help but to be depressed when I shop while I wonder how can the Broadway Market continue to survive like this?

Facebook "Timeline": It Does Not Work, No Opt Out

Every single person, organization and business using Facebook Pages will be forced on March 30, 2012, WITHOUT CHOICE, to use a timeline that is not necessary, impedes communication, and affects privacy and malfunctions.

You can see a preview of timeline here: https://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

The Facebook timeline has been put in place for business, organization and community pages. The timeline hampers communication, is technically faulty, graphically heavy, and is not user friendly. Regardless of how the technology functions, users do not have a choice. This is against net neutrality, an Internet principle that Facebook supports.

FOLLOW UP: Other Cities Do It, Why Can't We?

UPDATE DECEMBER 29: The New York Times published a feature story on Monday saying that the city of Madrid, Spain has committed nearly $5 billion to cover a misbegotten, 1970s-era riverfront highway with a park. (That's a 5 followed by 9 zeros, folks.) The story has links to other projects, like Chicago's Millennium Park, that represent courage in the face of adversity to invest in the future of a city. At a mere $140,000,000 (which may well have been an inflated sum), Buffalo's Towpath Park would have been a bargain.

Agree? Disagree? What other projects could Buffalo take on to restore its vitality? Add your comments below.
