The Character Council of Western New York and Harvest Time Partners Foundation have announced a new scholarship program to reinforce the importance of character and encourage students to pursue academic goals beyond high school.

The program will award $1,000 scholarships to three college-bound Western New York high school seniors exemplifying character in his or her daily life. Seniors attending a public, private, parochial or home school who are enrolling full-time in a college or trade school for the fall of 2014 are eligible.

Students must be residents of Allegheny, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming counties to be considered. The scholarship will be made payable directly to the chosen post-secondary institutions.

“We are excited to offer these scholarships to high school seniors who are exemplifying strong character in their lives,” said Suzanne McKenney, president of the Character Council of Western New York. “These deserving students provide a great example for all of us who are striving to create a culture of character throughout the Western New York Region.”

“The Character Council of Western New York has made a tremendous impact on individuals, schools and communities in Western New York, and we are grateful for its association in providing these scholarships,” said David Esposito, managing partner at Harvest Time Partners, Inc. “We look forward to recognizing these fine young men and women and the positive impact they will have in the years to come.”

Details about the scholarship application process and additional information can be found on the Character Council’s website at www.charactercouncilwny.org/scholarship. The application deadline is Jan. 15. For more information, call 202-0702 or email info@charactercouncilwny.org.
