Make Sure Your Pets Are "Red Cross Ready" For An Emergency

BUFFALO, NY, September 23rd, 2011 – As we all know, disaster can strike anywhere at any time and without warning.  As we approach another winter storm season, it’s important that area residents take steps to prepare for an emergency in order to keep their loved ones safe.

For many of us, pets are an important part of our family, and it’s important to remember that our four-legged friends can be impacted by disaster as well.   A winter storm can force you to leave your home at a moment’s notice, or force you to stay in your home for an extended period of time.  The American Red Cross urges everyone to “Be Red Cross Ready” by following three simple steps, while keeping your pets needs in mind:

  1. Get a kit
  2. Make a Plan
  3. Be Informed

The American Red Cross is offering a free “Be Red Cross Ready” educational program on Saturday, October 8th from 11am-noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Tonawanda.  The public is invited to come and learn more disaster preparedness tips to make sure everyone in their family—people and pets-- know what to do in case of an emergency.  One lucky attendee will win a Deluxe Personal Emergency Pack.
