Title (Max 100 Characters)
The all-day Taste of South Buffalo event, a celebration of food and music to be held on Saturday, August 18, in Cazenovia Park, is right around the corner! From great restaurants and fabulous musicians to the Mike Diggins Memorial 5K Walk/Run and an attempt at the world’s largest split club, the event promises lots of fun for everyone.
Restaurants taking part in the event include Conlon’s Bar & Grill, Wise Guys Pizza, Big Belly Barbeque, The Blackthorn Restaurant & Pub, Brick Oven Bistro & Deli and more, including some of Buffalo’s favorite food trucks!
The fun gets going at 8 a.m. with the Diggins Memorial 5K, a USA Track & Field-sanctioned event. Mike Diggins was a long-time contributor to Western New York running community who grew up in Buffalo’s Old First Ward. An avid runner, Diggins was proud of his Irish heritage and his strong ties to South Buffalo, Bishop Timon High School, Bishop Turner High School and St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.
At 11 a.m., the Buffalo Warriors basketball team of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League will take on South Buffalo Catholic School parents in an exhibition game. At 6 p.m., there will be a live taping of the “Duck, Duck, Goose” television game show, followed by the split club drawing at 9:30 p.m. Organizers of the event are hoping to break the world’s record for the biggest split club ever given away — $100,000! A 15-foot pool package from Zappia Pools & Spas of Lackawanna will also be awarded as a consolation prize.
Musical entertainment will include the Jane Jane Soundsystem from noon to 5 p.m., recording artist Zack Joseph at 5 p.m., and the band So Far So Good at 8 p.m.
For more information about the event, to register as a vendor or sign up for the Diggins Memorial 5K Walk/Run, please visit www.tasteofsouthbuffalo.com. The race registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for students, and the first 300 paid registrants will receive a free T-shirt.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the three campuses of South Buffalo Catholic: Ambrose Academy, 260 Okell St.; Notre Dame Academy, 1125 Abbott Road; and Trinity Catholic Academy, 16 Hayden St. For more information regarding these schools, please call 861-7442, visit www.southbuffalocatholic.com or email edbednarz@southbuffalocatholic.com.
