International Institute of Buffalo Hosts 'Buffalo Meets Burma' at Asbury Hall

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Made possible by presenting sponsors M & T Bank and The Buffalo News, Buffalo Meets Burma is a night infused with Burmese culture, including a Karenni (Burmese ethnic group) dance troupe, blessing by local monks, food, photography by Buffalo's Brendan Bannon and Burma's Law Eh Soe, crafts, and the premiere screening of a video by Jon Hand about refugees from Burma.  Guests will even get the chance to learn a few phrases in the Burmese language.

The event is scheduled Thursday, October 7, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Asbury Hall (“Babeville” / “The Church”), 341 Delaware Avenue (at the corner of Tupper), in Downtown Buffalo.

Apples, pumpkins ... fall is definitely in the air at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market! And, come out this Saturday, October 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for wine-tasting courtesy of Niagara Landing Wine Cellar. Buffalo Carshare will be there too to explain their unique service.

American Cancer Society Warns of Traffic Disruption

Route Changes to "Making Strides" Walk Will Effect Niagara Square, Delaware, Tupper, Franklin 

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Thousands of local breast cancer survivors will descend on Downtown Buffalo this Sunday for the 15th annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. A new route for this year's event will affect several roads until about noon on October 3rd.

Niagara Square will close to traffic at approximately 6:00 a.m. and remain closed until about 3:00 p.m. Other streets on the walk route include Delaware, West Tupper, Erie, Commercial Slip (Hannover) and Franklin. Portions of those roads will close from 10:00 a.m. until about noon.

Cooking Demo Planned at Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market

We may be entering October, but there’s no end to the fun and excitement of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market. Coming to the Market on Saturday, October 2: Wine-tasting courtesy of Liberty Vineyards & Winery, and special cooking demonstration by Ron Glatzhofer of Saltamontes Salsa! Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Man Walks to Washington DC to Initiate Change

Randy Sargent, President of Stop Killing Clothing and community activist from Buffalo, will be walking from the Buffalo City Hall steps to Washington DC to grab lawmaker’s attention. His goal is be the voice of vicitims of homocide throughout our entire nation.

His journey began on August 28th at 2:00pm when he stepped foot off of the City Hall  steps in Buffalo. The total distance of the walk is 600 miles.

Buffalo Stars Host Salute to Youth Hockey at Holiday Rinks This Saturday

The Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey Club will host their Salute to Youth Hockey Night on Saturday, September 25th when the Stars host the New Hampshire Monarchs in a Continental Hockey Association Junior B league game at Holiday Twin Rinks, 3465 Broadway near Union in Cheektowaga.  The opening face-off is set for 7:35pm.
