Buffalo Stars Preseason In Full Stride (video) / Gift Card Collection To Benefit Military Families

The Buffalo Stars are offering free tickets to our Opening Night Doubleheader on Saturday, September 11, 2010, as part of our “Salute to the American Troops” and 9/11 Remembrance Weekend.

As part of this weekend we are collecting Gift Cards to benefit the National Guard 107th Family Support Group.  We will offer 40 FREE Opening Night Passes to any person or team that can generate $100 worth of gift cards.

Our goal is $5000 in value of gift cards.  Please consider gift cards including grocery cards, department store gift cards and others that will directly benefit local families whose loved ones are taking time away from their families and jobs to answer their nation’s call.

Here is the schedule for Saturday, September 11th.

Buffalo City Mission Receives Major Cost Saving Upgrade

New York State Sen. Antoine Thompson and representatives from Solar Liberty and the Buffalo City Mission “flipped the switch” today on a new solar energy system that provides a valuable source of electricity for the area’s largest homeless shelter.

The 204-panel rooftop system is expected to produce 53,600 kWh of electricity per year, approximately 16 percent of the building’s electrical usage. At current electrical rates, the system will save the Mission an estimated $6,700 in utility costs in its first year and is expected to increase each year if energy prices rise.

“Aside from the immediate cost savings, the City Mission is now a much greener building,” said Solar Liberty CEO Adam Rizzo.

Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey Collecting Gift Cards for Local Military Families

The Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey organization, a college-prep level program based at Holiday Twin Rinks, is challenging Western New York’s youth hockey associations to collect gift cards to benefit the New York Air National Guard 107th Airlift Wing's Family Readiness Group.

This gift card drive is part of the Stars' upcoming “Salute to American Troops” ceremony, which takes place during the hockey club’s season opener on Saturday, September 11 at Holiday Twin Rinks.  (Further details about the schedule and team are available at www.buffalostars.com
