NYS Senator Tim Kennedy to Host Climate Change Action Event | Environment
On Monday, July 29th, New York State Senator Timothy Kennedy and various waterfront recreational tourism operators and enthusiasts will gather for a press conference and photo opportunity at 1 p.m. at the Central Wharf at Canalside to highlight the impacts of extreme weather and climate change in Buffalo Niagara and New York State.
State Senator Kennedy and others will offer remarks at the press event and rally, which follows President Obama’s historic action on climate change. The President’s plan includes the nation’s first-ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants, as well as other strategies to prepare America for the effects of climate change.
According to recent reports, climate change is negatively impacting water levels in the Great Lakes, making recreational activities, shipping and manufacturing more expensive. Lake levels are now at historic lows, 26 inches below their long-term averages. Such changes are altering habitats for fish and other aquatic species and stirring the concern of freshwater anglers and water-based recreational tourism operators in the region.
Interested individuals and groups are encouraged to come out and participate to show support for the “I Will Act” movement and national policy to address climate change!
Current polls show that a majority of Americans want climate action now. 65% of voters support “the President taking significant steps to address climate change now.”
