Buffalo Stars Hockey to Host Labor Day Tournament | Events
The arrival of Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and for the Buffalo Stars and other amateur teams it means the arrival of hockey season. The 2011-2012 hockey season officially begins for the Buffalo Stars this weekend as they play host to the 10th Annual Greater Buffalo Labor Day Shootout at Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga and Leisure Rinks in Orchard Park.
The Buffalo Stars’ Empire Junior Hockey League team, Under-18 AA Midget and Under-16 AA Midget teams will co-host and participate in this traditional season-starting event. A total of 19 teams will participate, including other Western New York teams and clubs from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Games begin on Friday at Noon at Holiday Rinks and 2pm at Leisure Rinks. The Buffalo Stars U16 team will open the Tournament at Noon on Friday as they take on the Red Raiders of St Francis (Athol Springs, NY) at Holiday Twin Rinks. The Stars U18 team will follow at 2pm as they face off against the Niagara Coyotes and the Stars Empire Junior team will play host to the Massachusetts Maple Leafs at 6:15pm, also at Holiday.
A total of 47 games will be played over the weekend with Championships being decided in the U16 and U18 divisions on Monday.
Games will run until 10:30pm on Friday. Action on Saturday and Sunday runs from 8am to 10:30pm at both Holiday and Leisure. The Championship games will be played Monday morning at Holiday at 9 and 11:15am.
