South Buffalo Alive to Present Parade of Circles on June 2

The Parade of Circles, an annual event celebrating beautification projects along historic McKinley Parkway in South Buffalo, will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2. The event is presented by South Buffalo Alive, a nonprofit community organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in South Buffalo through ongoing preservation and beautification efforts.

Established in June 2001, the parade runs from Dorrance Circle to Heacock Park and is followed by a picnic in the park with plenty of activities for the kids. The parade will feature music and dancing as well as community groups that help make the neighborhood a special place in which to live.

Serving as grand marshall of the 2013 parade will be Dick O’Neil of O’Neil’s Auto Service, 1951 South Park Ave., Buffalo. Parade organizers hailed O’Neil as “a great neighbor and an asset to the community.” The parade will also honor all of the very generous members of South Buffalo Alive who have supported the organization over the years, some for as many as 10 years!

To date, South Buffalo Alive has been involved with numerous community projects, including the restoration and beautification of the McKinley and McClellan Circles; restoration of the Cazenovia Shelter House, including the “Bricks in the Bowl” garden; creation and maintenance of Tim Russert’s Children’s Garden on South Park Avenue; installation of flower planters along commercial business strips and much more.
