Journey of Kilimanjaro Climb to be Shared by Hilbert Alum, Ed Kilgore

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Kilimanjaro Klimb for Kids, last summer’s climbing excursion of the highest free standing peak in the world as a way to help raise awareness and support for Kids Escaping Drugs, will be discussed March 2 by Hilbert College alumnus and climb participant Brian Kruszka.

Kruszka and fellow climber Ed Kilgore, WGRZ-TV sports director, will talk about their remarkable experience and the challenge of climbing Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro an 11 a.m. presentation in Hilbert’s William E. Swan Auditorium.

A 2009 Hilbert graduate, Kruszka will also discuss his affiliation with Kids Escaping Drugs and his personal motivation for participating in the climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands 19,340 feet above sea level. The Lake View resident has described his involvement in the climb as a “tangible way to illustrate any life you want to live is out there, waiting for you, with no limitations to seek, pursue and live.”

The event, which is sponsored by the Hilbert Counseling Center, is free and open to the public. More information is available by contacting Phyllis Dewey, director of counseling, at 926-8930 or e-mail pdewey@hilbert.edu.
