Catholic Academy of West Buffalo Excels in Fitness | Families
The students at Catholic Academy have been very busy this year learning about healthy choices and the benefits of physical fitness. Their hard work has paid off with the school earning (3) different prizes. Under the leadership of Physical Education teacher Brad Milette, the students in PreK through 8th grade have participated in the Independent Health Fitness for Kids Challenge and NY Road Runners Mighty Milers Program.
Catholic Academy of West Buffalo was one of the top five small schools participating in the Fitness for Kids Challenge and was awarded $1000 for the Phys Ed program. CAWB had 93% of the students actively participate in the Challenge. Catholic Academy also won 100 tickets to a BISONS game for having the most number of participants, out of 75 schools, in the Independent Health Kids Run in June.
The students truly excelled at walking and running, participating in the Mighty Milers program. The first month the program was implemented, they reached the benchmark of walking or running over 1500 miles, earning 250 books for the school! The very successful year finished with a Fun Run, which the entire student body completed, running or walking from 1/2 to 1 1/2 miles.
