EPIC Hosts: "Jump Start Your Baby Smarts" Workshops at The Belle Center

Buffalo, New York – January 27, 2011 – EPIC (Every Person Influences Children) will hold FREE parenting education workshops for parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers (pregnancy- age 3).

There will be 8 consecutive workshops: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. February 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 2011 at The Belle Center-104 Maryland St. Buffalo, NY 14201. Topics will include but are not limited to: What is your Baby Trying to Say; The Secret Lives of Babies: Eat & Sleep; A Doctor Talk; Read, Baby, Read and more!  A FREE Fisher Price Toy will be given upon successful completion of 4 consecutive workshops. Fifth-Annual CASH In Saturday to be Held This Weekend to Kick Off Tax Season!

WHAT:     Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (CASH), an initiative of United Way, will once again kick off the income tax season with a day of free tax preparation and filing, as well as access to a wide range of other services to those earning less than $50,000 per year as part of Cash In Saturday.

WHO:        Individuals and families earning less than $50,000 per year are eligible for free tax preparation from trained preparers, as well as services from many local  banks, educational institutions, health and human service agencies, and government agencies

WHEN:   SATURDAY, January 29, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

WHERE:   Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC) Hope Center at the Tri-Main Building, 2495 Main Street, Buffalo

Buffalo State College Volunteers to Offer Free Tax Preparation Services

Buffalo State College Volunteers to Offer Free Tax Preparation Services

Volunteers at Buffalo State College will offer free tax preparation services this tax season to individuals and families of Western New York with gross incomes of less than $50,000 per year. Buffalo State is one of eight sites partnering with the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County’s Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (CASH) coalition to offer free tax services in 2011.

Help is available from fully-trained volunteer preparers starting January 31 through April 13 on the Buffalo State campus in Bacon Hall 106A. Walk-in preparation will be offered on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while appointment-only service will be available Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Appointments can be requested by calling (716) 878-5907.

Residents and families are asked to bring photo identification, social security cards, wage and earning statements, and a copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available.

TOY Introduces New Winter Re-Charge Theatre School this February

Education has always been a large component of Theatre of Youth’s (TOY) mission and that mission is manifested each year with the development of the TOY Theatre School.  Existing in various forms since TOY’s inception in 1972, the TOY Theatre School is entering its third consecutive year of popular workshops since their move to the Historic Allendale Theatre in 2001.  The Winter Re-Charge series, taking place February 21-25 during the 2011 winter break, marks the first time that TOY has been able to offer mid-season workshops to local children.  The cost per student is $150 and classes are restricted to just 12 students per teacher.

First Annual Winter Carnival at the Historical Society: Indoor and Outdoor Activities for ALL AGES!

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society's all-age, indoor/outdoor Winter Carnival will take place Sunday, January 23, 2011, from 1 to 4 p.m. This event is made possible with generous support from the Northwest Buffalo Community Center.

Special guest Sabretooth, the Buffalo Sabres' beloved mascot, will be here to greet visitors and pose for photos.

Outdoor activities include snowshoeing with Tifft Nature Preserve instructors, Iroquois Snowsnake game demonstrations, sledding, and snowman building.

Indoor activities will include face painting, arts & crafts, mini-museum tours and artifact scavenger hunts. In addition, everyone can enjoy live music from Vitamin D, a young local band that plays family-friendly reggae, funk and soul music. Indulge in delicious, locally made baked goods from Chrusciki Bakery, and free hot chocolate! Also the Museum’s model trains will be running all afternoon.
