Buffalo, NY -- Sisters of Charity Hospital successfully completed its first lap band procedure and was the first in Western New York. The procedure was performed by Dang Tuan Pham, MD, a surgeon.

The lap band is placed in a patient through a single 20mm incision in the belly button and leaves no visible scar.

“We are thrilled to be at the forefront of a new kind of surgery that continues to transform the minimally invasive arena, resulting in even better experiences for patients,” Peter U. Bergmann, President & CEO said. “At Sisters Hospital patient care is our highest priority. Procedures including SILS are instrumental in helping us fulfill our goal of offering patients the latest advancements in medicine.”

Sisters of Charity Hospital has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. This designation is awarded to surgeons and programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery. Sisters Hospital is also a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery™ and was ranked #1 in New York State and in the top 5% nationally for bariatric surgery for 2009 – 2011 by HealthGrades®.
