First FDA-Approved Cancer Treatment Vaccine Available at Roswell Park

BUFFALO, NY — The nation’s first FDA-approved cancer treatment vaccine, Provenge (sipuleucel-T), is being offered for the first time in Western New York at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). The vaccine is designed for men with advanced prostate cancer who have limited treatment options and who meet eligibility requirements. “It’s the first time we are able to offer immunotherapy with an FDA-approved product,” says Roberto Pili, MD, Chief of the Genitourinary Section in RPCI’s Department of Medicine.

Provenge represents a new approach to cancer treatment — using vaccines to trigger the patient’s own immune system to attack cancer cells.

Catholic IPA Unveils New Name, Identity

Catholic IPA Unveils New Name, Identity

BUFFALO, NY – There is a new name in health care.

The Catholic Independent Practice Association (CIPA), the area’s largest network of independent practicing physicians, announced today that it will operate under the new name ‘Catholic Medical Partners.’ The new name and logo were unveiled last night to hundreds of the organization’s members and representatives from Catholic Health and Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.

Established in 1996 as CIPA, the initial focus of the organization was to integrate the efforts of five distinct physician-hospital organizations. While many other similar organizations within the health care industry have dissolved over the past 15 years, Catholic Medical Partners has grown into a dynamic leader in health care in Western New York.

“We wanted to take on much more than a new name and logo,” explained Dennis Horrigan, Catholic Medical Partners President and CEO.
