Catholic Health Sponsors Free Program on Women and Heart Disease

Heart Disease is not just a “man’s disease.” It is the leading cause of death in women and responsible for more deaths than all forms of cancer combined.

Catholic Health will be sponsoring a free women’s health education program entitled, “Heart Health for Women,” on Wednesday, February 9 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the OLV Senior Neighborhood located at 55 Melroy Avenue in Lackawanna.

Even though most people associate heart disease with men, it is a growing women’s health concern. Ginny Lyons, RN, women’s health specialist, will provide a female-focused overview of the risks, signs, symptoms and current treatment options for heart disease.

Blossom Hill Farm Offers a Healthy Alternative to the Supermarket

Blossom Hill Farm may be located in the hills of Dayton, but they can be found every Saturday at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, May through December. And that’s great news to their many followers and fans.

“We began raising meat for our family after we started learning about how animals were raised and sold commercially,” said Jo’El Drajem. “Our ideology is to give our animals the best life possible without the use of growth hormones, steroids and fed antibiotics. We raise our animals the way nature intended.”

And that, in a nutshell, is what sets Blossom Hill Farm products far above the competition.

Congressman Higgins Outlines: What Health Care Repeal Means for WNY

Congressman Higgins Outlines: What Health Care Repeal Means for WNY

“Today I will vote against the effort to repeal health care reform.   Health reform needed the start we gave it and we should be working together to build on that momentum.  No one thinks the Affordable Care Act is perfect, but tearing down what has been done is destructive not constructive.”

“Most would agree health care costs are devastating businesses and families but finding long-term solutions to complex problems doesn’t come when you press the delete key, it happens when we collectively put in the hard work necessary to continue the process of delivering meaningful change - that is what the American people want and that is what they deserve.”
