Ten dollar dinners: Greek Pita Wraps, Avgolemono and Rice Pudding Recipes

There are lots of great Greek restaurants in Western New York. We enjoy the food at the Royal Restaurant on Sheridan and Military in Tonawanda. They have great food, great service and their prices aren't too bad. But sometimes, money is tight and we find ourselves at home craving a Greek food and no money to go out to dinner.

Celebrate National S'more's Day August 10, 2011

Celebrate National S'more's Day August 10, 2011

National S'mores Day is August 10, 2011. Celebrating something as simple as the smore can be a fun, inexpensive way to spend the evening with the family on a summer night. Growing up I remember many backyard barbecues that ended with the simplicity of a s'mores for dessert. I also remember many Girl Scout camping trips at Camp Seven Hills, sitting around the campfire roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

A s'more is a simple treat to make, but these recipes for s'mores cake, s'mores brownies and s'mores cake in a jar elevate the simple s'more to an even better, some might say more adult treat.

Grab your graham crackers, Hershey chocolate bars and marshmallows and enjoy National S'mores Day on August 10, 2011.

National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Front Porch Day 2011

National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Front Porch Day 2011

National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day is on Monday August 8, 2011. Have you ever heard of this celebration? I hadn't, but growing up with a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who grew bushels and bushels of zucchini, I was aware of those big paper bags of zucchini that got left on neighbors' front porches every August and September. What I did not know is that there is an entire day (or night, if you're really sneaky) devoted to leaving the abundance of zucchini we grow on our neighbors front porches!

What do you do if you wake up tomorrow morning and find a big paper sack filled with zucchini on your front porch? You can make many things, and then send your neighbor a thank you note for all the free zucchini you got to enjoy.
