(August 25, 2011) - The Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey Club, members of the Empire Junior Hockey League, will depart early Friday morning for a weekend pre-season training trip that includes a stop on the same ice where the "Miracle On Ice" happened 31 years ago.
The Stars, which compete at the Junior B level (players are ages 16 to 20 and are candidates for advancement to higher levels of competitive hockey), will first play in an enhibition game against the Syracuse Stars Friday in Cicero, New York. Next, they'll head to Oswego State University for a "Q & A" session with the school's hockey coaches.
Then, it's training time both on the ice and off at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid. They'll work out on the same ice where Team USA shocked the world with an upset win over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics, followed days later by a gold-medal clinching win over Finland on the same rink.
