BUFFALO, N.Y. – Retail returned to downtown Buffalo on Saturday.

Furnishings Gift Home & You opened on the 500 Block of Main Street and, according to owner Joseph Incao, is an emporium of goods.

While the store’s name may suggest a furniture store, Furnishings offers a wide variety of products, from home décor to fun greeting cards. Customers can browse through throw pillows with catchy sayings or a selection of brightly colored umbrellas.

There’s a little something for everyone, Incao said.

During the 1980s, the Buffalo-native moved to New York City, where he worked for a number of luxury retail brands. Four years ago, Incao left his job as Senior Vice President of Retail Operations at Prada and returned to his hometown after noticing Buffalo’s growth and potential.

“[I] knew Buffalo was turning the corner and starting to progress and really wanted to be a part of that,” he said.

Before Incao left for New York City, he was selling shoes at L. L. Berger’s. So when he was deciding on a retail space for Furnishings, he chose the vacancy that was once L. L. Berger’s for his connection to it.

Furnishings is the first store to open on the newly refurbished 500 Block on Main Street and Incao encourages other people to join him.

“Come down to Main Street and check it out again,” Incao said. “Not just because I’m here, but there’s been millions of dollars spent between the 600 block and here and it’s beautiful.”
