BUFFALO, N.Y. - The city of Buffalo is hoping to get more illegal guns off the streets through the annual gun buy-back program.
The fifth annual "no questions asked" program is planned for August 18th at seven faith based drop off locations across Buffalo.
Since 2005 the city has removed over 8,000 illegal guns. 3,000 were through the buy-back program.
"We know that there are some critics, we understand that... we respect that... we respect peoples point of views and opinion, but we are doing everything we can to make the streets safer," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.
In addition to the gun buy-back the city recently graduated 38 new Buffalo police officers and the city's surveillance camera system will be expanded by 40 cameras this year to a total of 165 citywide.
The Seven drop off locations are:
Church of the Good Shepherd: Jewett Parkway
Prince of Peace Christian Church: Albany Street
Primera United Methodist Church: Virginia Street
St. Thomas Aquinas Church: Abbott Road
St. John Baptist Church: Goodell Street
