National Fuel Accountability Coalition holds “Stakeholder Meeting” in Buffalo

As National Fuel Gas Shareholders meet in Naples, Florida, the NFAC host meeting for community stakeholders who can’t make the commute to Florida.

Today, hundreds of people from over twelve organizations of the National Fuel Accountability Coalition will gather to pass community resolutions at the “People’s National Fuel Stakeholder Meeting” here in Buffalo. The event corresponds with National Fuel’s shareholder meeting down in Naples, Florida, where high paid executives will handle company business.

The Coalition’s business will include three main points:

1.    Reforming National Fuel’s Conservation Incentive Program (CIP) which is disproportionately funded by surcharge on low income customers and doesn’t effectively meet low-income energy needs.

2.    Limiting executive compensation. CEO David Smith earned over $7Million dollars last year from the public utility.

3.    Scaling back National Fuel investment in the hazardous gas drilling practice known as hydraulic fracturing which is currently contaminating water across Pennsylvania and the southern tier.

“The energy crisis is crippling people in Buffalo, and National Fuel isn’t prioritizing community solutions.” said Dorian Gaskin of the Outsource Center. “by investing in weatherization, National Fuel could be creating jobs and lowing gas bills over the long term, and they’re not”.

The proposed 50% cuts to heap make a sustainable solution even more urgent. The “People’s National Fuel Stakeholders Meeting” will be held on Thursday March 10th at St. Pauls and St. Marks UCC (185 Niagara and W Huron Street). The Event begins at 4pm and members of the press are invited to join us at 4:30.
