Daemen Professor Named Health Leadership Fellow

Dr. Isiah Marshall, associate professor and master of social work program director at Daemen College, has been selected as a Health Leadership Fellow by the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York.

The 18-month program is designed to expand the network of highly collaborative and skilled leaders who will serve as advocates to improve the health and well-being of the frail elderly and children from communities of poverty throughout the region.

As a Health Leadership Fellow, Marshall will participate in sessions on personal leadership, leading change, communicating as a leader, results-based leadership, and collaboration. He will also attend two- to three-day retreats led by experts in the field, take part in an inter-organizational team project, and receive executive coaching.

Grisanti To Sponsor Domestic Violence Roundtable

 

Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I-60) will sponsor a New York State Senate Roundtable,”Domestic Violence: Prevention Starts With You” on Friday, April 4th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., at the Walter J. Mahoney Building, 65 Court Street in Buffalo, Senate Hearing Room 6.

Unfortunately, one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Surprisingly, only one in seven instances is reported.

Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel has quite the catch of an event for football fans on Saturday, Mar. 22, as it hosts #83 Andre Reed for a free autograph session. The Hall of Fame inductee and former Buffalo Bills wide receiver will be available to the public at the Seneca Niagara Events Center from noon to 3 p.m. with fellow Bills alumni.

Fans are invited to visit Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel and bring up to two items for signatures. Reed, who will be inducted to the Hall of Fame this August, will be at Seneca Niagara Events Center with fellow Bills greats Joe DeLamielleure and Mark Kelso. The first 100 fans in line will receive a Buffalo Bills tumbler, and drawings will take place throughout the afternoon for memorabilia and other prizes. Autographs will take place on a first-come, first-served basis, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Michael and Maureen Pratt Named Chairs of  Catholic Charities’ 2014 Appeal

The Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, bishop of Buffalo, and Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, diocesan director of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, have announced Michael and Maureen Pratt will serve as chairs, and Jake and Katie Schneider will serve as vice chairs, for the 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal.

The 90th annual campaign extends through June 30, the end of the fiscal year, and seeks to raise $10.8 million to help fund Catholic Charities’ 70 programs across 61 sites in the eight counties of Western New York. The many services benefiting from the Appeal include education and employment assistance, behavioral health services, food pantries, basic relief services, and immigration and refugee assistance.

This year’s Appeal Week will be held April 6 through April 13. The theme of Appeal 2014 is “Heart at work.”

What is divine intervention? Why are we here? What is your purpose? Does God exist?

These are questions many of us ask ourselves and others every day. Such dilemmas exist because we have diverse lives that lead us to further investigation. Such questions may bring one to personal growth, overcoming obstacles, settling on or away from a belief system, deciding what path is correct to follow and most importantly, the value of self.

Scholars, seers, religious leaders, scientists, peace makers, activists and those that have come before us, our forefathers, have asked themselves the same questions. Did they arrive at a conclusion? We shall never truly know the answer, all we are able to do is keep searching, keep meeting new people, strive to improve and do our very best to simply be good people.

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs hosted FREE tax preparation assistance to help working families and individuals filing tax returns who are claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other tax credits at the Erie County Auto Bureau-Northtown Office.

“The time to begin filing tax returns is now, taxpayers should not wait until the last minute,” said County Clerk Jacobs. “I am pleased to take part in offering this essential service and assist taxpayers in filing accurate state and federal tax returns to ensure they receive the necessary deductions and Earned Income Tax Credit.”

County Clerk to unveil new Mobile Unit location inside AAA

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs officially unveiled the Erie County Auto Bureau’s newest On-Site Mobile location. Jacobs teamed up with the AAA Western and Central New York to make auto bureau services more convenient in Amherst with “Reservation Saturdays”.

“I pledged to restructure and improve the hours and location sites of the Erie County Auto Bureau”, said County Clerk Jacobs. “We have worked with our partners in the private sector to expand office operations and enhance hours for all motorists with no additional costs to the residents of Erie County.”
