Buffalo's Steele MacKaye, the Father of Modern Acting

Modern Acting was Born In An Old Buffalo Castle

  •    In the Old Castle that overlooked the bluff facing Lake Erie and Niagara River, on June 6, 1842, was born to James and Emily Steele MacKaye, a son named James Steele MacKaye. He is likely the greatest unknown theater inventor, playwright, designer, teacher, innovator and impresario ever. By many authorities of the stage was called the "Father of Modern Acting." Between 1872-1894 he wrote thirty plays and acted in seventeen different roles. In 1873 he became the first American to play Hamlet in London. He also patented over 100 theatrical inventions between 1879-1893, including the folding theatre chair. His crowning piece would have been his "Spectatorium." Planned to include twenty-five moving stages and seat 12,000 people, it was to be staged at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.

On June 20, Legislator Edward A. Rath III, R-Williamsville, Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard and Leilani Pelletier from the Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York Chapter held a press conference at the Amherst Center for Senior Services located at 370 John James Audubon Pkwy in Amherst to announce the implementation of the Erie County Silver Alert System. The local law, which was created to expedite search efforts for missing Alzheimer’s patients or individuals with other dementia related illnesses, was passed in November 2010.

Catholic Charities Re-elects Five Members to Agency Board

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 10, 2011 – Catholic Charities of Buffalo has re-appointed five members to a three-year term on its Board of Trustees: Robert M. Bennett, Margaret Dadd, Esq., Monsignor David M. Gallivan, Richard Morrisroe and Tina Wagle, PhD.
All have served on the board since 2005 with the exception of Bennett, who served from 2004-2009. The three-year term continues through July 2014.

Bennett is former Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents, representing the Eighth Judicial District; Dadd is an attorney and a leader in the Catholic Charities’ annual Appeal; Msgr. Gallivan is pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Buffalo; Morrisroe has received his juris doctor, and Dr.

Sharon Belton Cottman, a home mortgage consultant with Wells Fargo Mortgage has been elected the new Ferry District board member.  Here she is seen with her son, Kahlil Cottman, who held the bible as his mother was sworn in.

Ms. Belton Cottman immediately took her seat and got down to business.

West Side NHS and Partners Adopt a Home for NeighborWorks Week
West Side Neighborhood Housing Services, Black Rock-Riverside Neighborhood Housing Services and community partners including Habitat for Humanity are changing Joe Domeracki's life during NeighborWorks® Week, June 4-11. The 73-year-old resident is disabled, has limited income, and has difficulty keeping up with home repairs. This week, volunteers will finish three weeks of work to fix up and paint his house. The project has brought in donations from all over Buffalo to help get Joe's home insured so he can take advantage of West Side NHS funds to make bigger repairs to his home.

This means a journalist is a writer that writes truth without personal opinion based upon fact and reality.
