Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project to Host Western NY’s Largest Pet-Themed Event

The most exciting event for area pet owners is taking place on November 15th & 16th at the Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg: the Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project Pet Expo & Super Adoption Event presented by the PETCO Foundation.  The Pet Expo kicks off the holiday shopping season with over 100 vendors exhibiting pet-related products and services, from specialty collars to artisan pet treats to pet-themed artwork.

It’s a wonderful time of year to adopt a new member of the family and the Super Adoption Event provides the occasion to find the perfect match. With 30 rescue groups and shelters participating on Friday and Saturday, there will be over 200 dogs and cats of all ages and breeds. Adoption fees will vary by organization.

It is no secret that pets have become a part of the family.  The American Pet Products Association reports that, in 2012, pet owners spent over $53 billion on caring for, and spoiling, their pet. To accommodate pet owners' desire for quality products and services for their favorite furry pal, the Maddie's Pet Rescue Project will be hosting Western New York's largest Pet Expo on Nov 15 & 16.

According to Bethany Kloc, Event Coordinator, "Guests at Paws in the Park say that being a part of a team is the best way to experience this event.  There is such a sense of team spirit, knowing that you are helping us to save the lives of thousands of animals."

Senator Grisanti Continues Push for Stronger Animal Cruelty Laws by Urging Governor to Sign Bill Tha

Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I – Buffalo) today has renewed his call for a crack down on puppy mills by urging Governor Cuomo to sign into law Bill S.3753, which would allow forward-thinking local governments to regulate commercial pet breeders and pet stores.

The legislation addresses the ineffectiveness of New York’s “Pet Dealer” law, the proliferation of unregulated dog breeders in the state and the pet industry’s complicit support of inherently cruel, out-of-state puppy mills.

“New York State appears to be the only home-rule state in the country that explicitly prohibits its towns and cities from regulating commercial pet breeders and pet stores,” Grisanti said, backed by area leaders in the fight against pet abuse. ”I am calling on the Governor to pass this piece of legislation so that New York can effectively regulate puppy mills, and put an end to abusive breeding techniques.”
