Buffalo’s Economic Resurgence Focus of Mayor’s Daemen Lecture

Mayor Byron W. Brown, a staunch advocate for economic development in Buffalo, will discuss the city’s economic resurgence and revitalization efforts as featured speaker in the Daemen College Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series that will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 2 in the Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.

Currently serving a third term as mayor of New York State’s second largest city, Brown’s talk, “Buffalo on the Move: For Our Region, Our State,” will focus on the city’s economic development initiatives over the past decade and the positive impact this growth has had both regionally and statewide.

U.S.-India Ties, Country’s Global Growth Emphasized in Lecture

Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, consul general of India in New York, presented valuable insight into the country’s impressive emergence as an independent nation and underscored the importance of strong U.S.-India relations in the Daemen College Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series event held on July 25.

As the first international speaker in the lecture series, Mulay discussed India’s rich ancient history to offer an intriguing perspective on its evolution to the country that exists today. India’s success, he explained, comes from a blend of history, cultural values and commitment to economic growth.

“India is a land of great aspirations and prosperity and is a country that strives to serve as an example of peace,” said Mulay. “Since its independence (from Great Britain) in 1947, India has embraced working as a unified nation and is focused on living by its affirmations as a democratic society.”

Grisanti Names Kelly Carrigg 'Veteran Of The Month'

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti recently named Kelly Carrigg as the seventh recipient of his "Veteran of the Month" recognition program.

 

A resident of the Town of Hamburg who served with the 82nd Airborne Division, Carrigg is the seventh recipient of a monthly honor presented by Senator Grisanti following an application and nomination process coordinated by staff members in Grisanti's veterans liaison office.

 

"I am pleased to recognize Lieutenant Colonel Carrigg with this honor," said Senator Grisanti, a member of the New York State Senate's Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committees. "Her career of distinguished service is very impressive and her current community involvement is admirable. Now working as a school teacher, she is an ideal role model for our young people."

Grisanti Names Joseph Pasek ‘Veteran Of The Month’

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti recently named Joseph Pasek as the sixth recipient of his “Veteran of the Month” recognition program.

A resident of the City of Tonawanda who served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, Pasek is the sixth recipient of a monthly honor presented by Senator Grisanti following an application and nomination process coordinated by staff members in Grisanti’s veterans liaison office.

“I am pleased to recognize Joseph with this honor,” said Senator Grisanti, a member of the New York State Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committees. “I commend him for his career of distinguished service and applaud him for his work as an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America chapter in Tonawanda, where he serves on their board of directors. His community involvement is admirable, especially what he has done over the past two years with the ‘Come Fly A Kite For Homeless Veterans’ event.”

Secretary of Homeland Security Announces Process for DACA Renewal

 

The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, recently announced that there will be a process for individuals to renew enrollment in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. USCIS has released the updated Form I-821D, which allows DACA recipients to renew their deferral for a two-year period. At the direction of the secretary, USCIS will begin accepting renewal requests immediately.

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I-60) today announced that Joseph Ruszala of Hamburg was honored in Albany  this week, as part of a ceremony that recognizes military veterans of New York being named to this year’s class of the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall Of Fame.
