Democrats Unanimously Endorse Whyte and Schroeder

From a Statement by the Executive Committee of the Erie County Democratic Committee

(June 25, 2011) The Executive Committee of the Erie County Democratic Committee today unanimously endorsed Erie County Legislator Maria Whyte for Erie County Clerk and New York State Assemblyman Mark Schroeder for City of Buffalo Comptroller.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of my party for Clerk,” said Whyte. “I believe in public service, and I look forward to putting my government, management and leadership experience up against Chris Jacobs’ record on the City of Buffalo School Board and letting the voters decide.”

“Support for Maria came from all corners of the county,” said Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan. “From Marilla, to Hamburg, to the City of Tonawanda, we are ready to stand up and support Maria based on her record of accomplishment.”

“The Democratic Party fights on behalf of regular people who work hard and play by the rules, and I am grateful for their endorsement today,” said Schroeder. “My experience as an executive in the private sector and my independent track record in the Assembly position me as someone who can ably manage the city’s finances.”

“The citizens of Buffalo deserve a comptroller who will be vigilant in protecting their tax dollars,” said Lenihan. “With Mark Schroeder they can rest assured that their money will be spent wisely to create a better community.”

The endorsements are an indication of the unity in Erie County’s Democratic Party. Members of the executive committee represent every town and city in Erie County, dozens of neighborhoods in Buffalo and members from the legal, business, labor, African American, Latino and GLBT communities.
