Grisanti Law Signed By Cuomo Supports Craft Beer Industry

Grisanti Law Signed By Cuomo Supports Craft Beer Industry

Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60) today announced that Governor Cuomo has signed a package of laws to support the craft beer industry.  This legislation will help increase demand for locally grown farmer products, support local breweries and wineries and expand industry related economic development and tourism    The laws keeps intact a tax benefit for small beer breweries, exempts those that produce small batches of beer from paying an annual State Liquor Authority fee, and creates a “Farm Brewery License” so craft breweries can expand their operations through opening restaurants or selling beer related products.  Grisanti sponsored the original Bill S. 5829 that sought to help small craft breweries expand their operations to include shops or restaurants.

Liberty Hound Brings Food & Beer to the Waterfront

Liberty Hound Brings Food & Beer to the Waterfront

The location itself shares the same building as the Naval Museum.  Sharing this building is unique and provides a lot of cool things to look at while standing around, unfortunately that it means there isn’t a lot of waiting room and sometimes crowds of tourists (from Canada?) to navigate through.  The other major dilemma for the restaurant is parking.  We ended up parking underneath the skyway but this area could really benefit from a more structured parking situation.  On this particular Sunday it was gorgeous outside and the wait for a table was 45 minutes (the restaurant is on the smaller side), but luckily we grabbed a pair of seats at the bar that had just opened up. (Note: they serve food at the bar as well as the cocktail tables out on the patio…and they are first come, first serve…so if you don’t want to wait for a table, try to grab one.)

Founding Fathers Serves Drinks and History Lessons

Founding Fathers Serves Drinks and History Lessons

Two months into starting Buffalo Eats, I wrote a post about having lunch at Founding Fathers and vaguely mentioned how much I enjoy the bar. The post was brief and over the three years since writing that article, my feelings for this bar have grown. I now consider it one of my favorite bars in the city (on par with the Pink), it’s the bar I chose to drink at the night before my wedding and the first place I took my brother when he turned 21. When I became the mayor on foursquare last month I was genuinely excited.

Woody's Beach Club is a Hidden Gem on Lake Erie

Woody's Beach Club is a Hidden Gem on Lake Erie

When I found out Woody’s Beach Club had made the top 10 list for WGRZ’s Favorite Restaurants or WNY, I was shocked just like many of the viewers.  I had actually never heard of the restaurant before watching Chef Krista Van Wagner talk about their fresh queso fresco and guacamole and dining out on the beach.  But after learning it was owned and operated by the Curtain Family (Dug’s Dive, The Steer, Lake Effect Diner), I’m even more surprised that it took me this long to hear about the restaurant.  They just opened in 2011 and just started up for the summer a few weeks ago so Alli and I decided to head down on a lazy evening last week.

Mike A's Raises the Bar for Fine Dining in Buffalo

Mike A's Raises the Bar for Fine Dining in Buffalo

I’ve had over 300 meals in Western New York and while several were very good this meal was excellent and convinced me that a change is coming.  What Mike Andrzejewski and Chef Edward Forster have brought to Buffalo is a true fine dining experience that stands alone and will hopefully set the bar for the area’s best restaurants.
