Keep Warm with Nelson's Ridge Hotcakes this Winter

Keep Warm with Nelson's Ridge Hotcakes this Winter

Last weekend I was pretty excited that Alli and I managed to eat the majority of our meals in the South Buffalo area. We picked up some food from English Pork Pie Company, stopped by Nine Eleven for some delicious Chicken Wings (arguably the best in Buffalo) and started our Saturday off with some breakfast at the recently opened Nelson’s Ridge.

Eat It Up featuring Chris and Pete from Lloyd Taco Trucks!

A couple weeks ago we had Pete Cimino and Chris Dorsaneo over in the Buffalo Eats Studio. We talked about the upcoming vote on food truck legislation (since then the Common Council passed the law), a possible second Taco Truck hitting the streets, how Pete and Chris came up with the idea for a Taco Truck and Chris’s excitement about being a Nickel City Chef challenger. It was a really fun conversation and I hope you enjoy the interview. If you’re now dying to try a Lloyd taco (I suggest the Pork),  check out their newly redesigned website for a calender of where they’ll be.  We also have two short announcements…

Organizers Cooking Up Buffalo Soup-Fest

Organizers Cooking Up Buffalo Soup-Fest

Now that the snow has finally arrived, it's time to get cozy with a Western New York favorite – the Buffalo Soup-Fest.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Admission is $5 per person, and children younger than 10 will be admitted free.

Once at the event, attendees may purchase “Soup Bucks” for $1 each, and vendors will sell 2- and 4-ounce samples. Quarts of soup also will be available for takeout. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

More than 30 area restaurants are expected to participate, and attendees will judge soups in dozens of categories, from best chili to best taste to overall winner.

“We have decided to gather some of the area’s best restaurants in one arena to sip, slurp, and sample some of the finest soups we have to offer,” according to the Soup-fest’s website.

New Episode of Eat It Up Released!

Buffalo Eats has just released their second episode of their new pod-cast, Eat It Up and this time Donnie Burtless talks with anonymous food blogger Dining Rumor.  For the last 6 months, Dining Rumor has been revealing all the gossip and news they've heard while working in the restaurant industry.  Whether it's an interview with popular restaurant owners/chef to rumors about restaurants closing, the blog touches on a wide range of topics while still remaning anonymous.  On the pod-cast they talk about the life of working in the restaurant world, how the blog started off and some goals and plans for the future.

Swirls Cupcakery Is a Hidden Gem

Swirls Cupcakery Is a Hidden Gem

Our cupcake consumption has really increased in the last two months.  With the opening of 3 new cupcake boutiques (two in the southtowns!) we’ve really stepped up our cupcake game.  Alli and I have wanted to visit Swirls Cupcakery for a long time now but because of work we couldn’t make it down during the week (they are only open until 5 on weekdays and 8 on Fridays and Saturdays) and our weekends have been really busy.  But last weekend we made a point to schedule a drive and finally sample their cupcakes.

Following is the first of a series of articles focused on the many incredible restaurants awaiting visitors in nearby London, Ontario.

Braise Food & Wine has a particular glamour with its chic, ultra-sophisticated decor combined with deliciously intelligent and artful cuisine. The eco-friendly restaurant design incorporates organic materials mixed with contemporary surfaces for a crisp, eclectic, urban sensibility. A solid walnut-topped bar is one of the focal points in the 126-seat room, which includes a 30-seat bar and comfortable lounge.

NoNoo Ramen Opens Amidst Much Excitement

NoNoo Ramen Opens Amidst Much Excitement

To say people were excited for the opening of NoNoo Ramen would be an understatement.  Any new restaurant on Elmwood will get some additional buzz but a restaurant offering a more traditional version of Japanese Ramen will really raise the expectations and build some hype.  NoNoo just opened their doors two days ago (in between Pasteurized Tee’s and Bistro Europa).  They still aren’t accepting credit cards, selling alcohol or offering take out (they should be sometime next week) but you can still enjoy their menu of 4 types of ramen as well as several small and large plates.  The crowd luckily doesn’t seem to be too crazy yet but if all of the tables are taken you can give the hostess your name and cell phone number and they’ll send you a text/call w
