Award Winning English Cuisine in Our Backyard!

Award Winning English Cuisine in Our Backyard!

It was back in May of this year when I first found out about the English Pork Pie Company from an article on Buffalo Rising about the successful husband and wife bakers that had been outgrowing their Cheektowaga bakery.  Since then the award winning English Pork Pie Company have moved to a much larger location on South Park in South Buffalo for their growing business.  At the moment you can currently buy their frozen goods at their store front, but the owners hope to eventually open their own version of a “Little Britain” with a restaurant/pub and specialty shops.

Mangoz Joins the Diverse Elmwood Strip

Mangoz Joins the Diverse Elmwood Strip

For as long as I can remember, 577 Forrest was an ever-changing restaurant building.  When I was younger I always thought it was a great location and could never figure out why it was empty.  But Elmwood can be deceiving and that youthful and naive version of myself didn’t understand the high costs and the high turnover of the strip.  Restaurants come and go pretty easily downtown, so I tried to hold back my optimism when I found about Mango’z opening several months ago.  But after being open for almost 2 months and purchasing a Groupon deal, Alli and I decided to visit and see how good this place was.

Buffalo Eats Debuts their Podcast "Eat It Up"

Today on Buffalo Eats I'm are proud to debut the first episode of our podcast, Eat It Up!  This is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I think our first episode came out really well.  Our producer Tom put a lot of work into the quality of the audio to make sure that we sounded as professional as possible.  We also couldn’t have asked for a better first guest; Christa Glennie Seychew is not only one of the most important people in Buffalo’s restaurant/food scene but she’s also a great person to talk to about food and our conversation could have went on for well over an hour.  Christa is the founder of Feed Your Soul which is behind the very popular Nickel City Chef and is currently the Food Editor at the Buffalo Spree.

Anchor Bar Makes National Top 10 List for Wings

Anchor Bar Makes National Top 10 List for Wings

It's the birthplace of the chicken wing and is still one of the best places to eat the game-day staple anywhere in the country, but that doesn't mean that the Anchor Bar should be overlooked as a great wing-eating destination.

Just ask Armand Vanderstigchel , a chef and author whose latest offering Wings Across America lists the Anchor Bar as one of the Top 10 destinations for chicken wing eaters.

Bacchus Stands Out on Chippewa

Bacchus Stands Out on Chippewa

Long ago I always wondered how Bacchus fit into the Chippewa scene; it never seemed like the place was packed and I just assumed only bars that catered to 18-25 year old’s would prosper in that area.  Years before Soho Burger Bar was getting attention for changing their format from niteclub to gourmet burger restaurant, Bacchus was offering fine dining to the downtown crowds.  It wasn’t until this year when I noticed that Executive Chef Brien Mietus was now a Nickle City Chef, did Alli and myself realize we needed to try this place out.

Allentown's Cantina Loco Finally Opens Doors to the Public

Allentown's Cantina Loco Finally Opens Doors to the Public

In the history of Buffalo Eats, I don’t think we’ve seen a more anticipated opening for a restaurant in Buffalo.  I’ve probably read over 10 articles on Buffalo Rising, Buffalo Spree, The Buffalo News and Artvoice about Mike Andrzejewski’s new Mexican restaurant.  Last night (Thursday Nov 17th) Cantina Loco opened it’s doors for the first time to customers and since we literally live right down the street, we stopped by on the first night.   For the time being, they are only offering takeout.  They’ll have a full opening when they eventually acquire their liquor license and finish remodeling the dining room/bar.
