Nonprofit Bicycle Workshop Victim of $1600 Robbery

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Green Options Buffalo’s Community Bicycle Workshop, which opens its doors three times per week for community members to fix up their bicycles and learn bicycle repair and maintenance, suffered a significant burglary over the July 4th weekend. An estimated $900 in bicycles and $700 in tools were reported stolen sometime Saturday evening.

The Community Bicycle Workshop, often affectionately referred to as “Blue Bike,” has been recycling up to 1000 used bikes per year since it opened in 2004. It is one of the more popular programs of the local nonprofit, Green Options Buffalo, which works to create, “healthy, environmentally sustainable, community friendly transportation options” here in Buffalo.

Providing musical entertainment at the open-air venue this week, July 9, will be Kate Shaffer from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Robert Ritchie from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including UNYTS, Buffalo Animal Shelter, Lexington Cooperative Market and KidBiz. Niagara Landing Wine Cellars and Freedom Run Winery will offer wine-tasting.

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including UNYTS, Buffalo Animal Shelter, Richmond Ashland National Register Historic District Initiative and Echo Art Fair. Arrowhead Spring Vineyards and Schulze Vineyards & Winery will offer wine-tasting.

Providing the entertainment at the open-air venue this week will be violinists David Adamczyk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Griffin Saiia from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Returning to the market for the first time in 2011 is everyone’s favorite attraction, the Alpaca Play Pen!
