London, Ontario: An Exciting Destination for Hockey Fanatics

 

Fans of the National Hockey League — and hockey in general — have an outstanding reason to pay a visit to nearby London, Ontario ... and that would be to experience the London Knights in action! 

The London Knights Hockey Club formed in 1965 as a Junior “A” franchise. They were known then as the London Nationals, an Ontario Hockey Association (OHL) affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs. This relationship ended in 1968 when the National Hockey League ended direct sponsorship of junior teams.

Sports Collectors Corner to Host Sammy Watkins for Signing Event

 

Sports Collectors Corner, located at Fashion Outlets Niagara, 1690 Military Road, Niagara Falls, N.Y., will host an autograph signing event with Sammy Watkins from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Watkins was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. The talented rookie wide receiver was a standout at Clemson before turning pro.

East Aurora resident Steven Helmicki, president of Primordial Strength Inc., a top-level private gym located in Elma, has launched www.anticoncussion.com and developed two USA-manufactured neck training machines and two field manuals that teach progressive, safe neck training. Helmicki has also developed a coaching certification program to reduce the number of concussions among athletes.

Western New York football fans have plenty of reasons to celebrate, including a season opening road win and the great news that the local team will apparently stay in Buffalo for many years to come! And now fans have a chance to celebrate the good news with the first home game of the season this Sunday in Orchard Park. BUFFALO RIVER FEST PARK HOSTS  “HALFWAY TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY” ON SEPTEMBER 5TH

On Friday, September 5th, 2014, the Valley Community Association will host their fourth annual “Halfway To St. Patrick’s Day Party” at Buffalo River Fest Park, located at 249 Ohio Street, Buffalo, New York.  The event will run from 7pm to 11pm and will feature the local Irish band “The Left Overs”.  

“The Left Overs” have established a following in Buffalo and throughout Western New York for over a decade. With music ranging from popular drinking songs to the historical and poignant rebel songs of Irish past, “The Left Overs” offer a large variety of tunes and ballads.  The band was founded by Jerry Shea and Pat Gerken, on the premise that good music will always bring people together. “The Left Overs” are Jerry Shea, Pat Gerken, Elizabeth Shea, Ryan Young, Dave Pruski, Greg Kent, and Tim Ellis.

Baseball, football and basketball legends — including several Hall of Fame members — will take part in the Western New York Sports Card Expo Sept. 20-21 at Batavia Downs Gaming, 8315 Park Road, Batavia. Also taking part in this unique event, presented by The Sports Corner, will be professional wrestling great Ric Flair and four actors from the HBO hit series “The Sopranos.” 

Kicking off the autograph lineup from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, will be NBA Hall of Famer and former Syracuse University star Dave Bing, along with former Syracuse standouts John Wallace, Roosevelt Bouie, Lawrence Moten and Pearl Washington.

Daemen Associate Athletic Director Named to 30 Under Thirty

Jessica Gorski , associate athletic director for sport administration at Daemen College, has been named a class of 2014 honoree in Buffalo Business First’s 30 Under Thirty. The annual program recognizes young professionals in Western New York who are performing at high levels in the early stages of their careers, both at work and in the community. She will be honored with the rest of the 2014 class at a cocktail party and awards ceremony from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the USS Little Rock at the Naval and Military Park in Buffalo.

"I am honored to have been selected for the 2014 Buffalo Business First 30 Under Thirty class," Gorski said. "I have been presented with a variety of opportunities at Daemen where I have the pleasure of working among highly talented colleagues from the department of athletics as well as other divisions. I have enjoyed these opportunities as a learning experience and a form of professional growth."
