NFADA Lists AutoTech and Tire Rodeo Competition Winners

 

Student teams from the Orleans Niagara BOCES Niagara Career & Technical Education Centers and the Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center won top honors at the annual NFADA Ron Smith Memorial AutoTech Competition and Tire Rodeo held Saturday in Orchard Park. The competition took place at the Erie Community College-Vehicle Technology Training Center at 5885 Big Tree Road, Orchard Park.

The AutoTech competition featured teams of two high school automotive seniors who were put through a series of diagnostic, workstation and performance tests to measure their automotive technical skills and abilities. The WNY Ford Dealers provided six 2014 Ford Fusions for the students to compete on.

While high school seniors are squaring off in the 2014 NFADA Ron Smith Memorial AutoTech Competition this Saturday, Jan. 18, in Orchard Park, area high school juniors will once again be learning the ropes and taking part in their own competition — a Tire Rodeo. 

Both competitions will take place beginning at 9 a.m. and will conclude with an awards ceremony at approximately 2 p.m. at the Erie Community College Vehicle Technology Training Center, 5885 Big Tree Road, Orchard Park. The event is open to the public.

Sonwil Distribution Center—Western New York’s premier logistics solutions provider—has announced the addition of several Kenworth Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tractors to its overall transportation fleet. These CNG tractors, operating under Sonwil’s Innovative Transportation Services affiliate, yield fewer emissions and deliver greater fuel economy/cost savings in comparison to traditional diesel trucks.

The Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association and Erie Community College are hosting the 2014 NFADA Ron Smith Memorial AutoTech Competition on Saturday, Jan. 18. The competition features teams of two high school automotive seniors who will go through a series of diagnostic, workstation and performance tests to measure their automotive technical skills and abilities. The WNY Ford Dealers are the vehicle sponsors and will be providing six 2014 Ford Fusions for the students to compete on.

The competition, to be held at the Erie Community College-Vehicle Technology Training Center at 5885 Big Tree Road in Orchard Park, is open to the public beginning at 9 a.m.  It concludes with an awards ceremony at approximately 3 p.m.

Parents: Remember the ‘5 to Drive’ to Keep Your Teen Drivers Safe

 

The Resource Training Center is issuing a special challenge this week to the parents of all teen drivers with a special “5 to Drive” campaign encouraging parents to always set the rules before their teens hit the road.

Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens in America. In 2011, 2,105 teen drivers were involved in fatal crashes – with almost half (45 percent) of those teen drivers being killed in those crashes.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ford Dealers of Western New York today announced that applications are available for the 2014 Ford Friendship Express program. Running for nearly two decades, the philanthropic program has donated more than 71 Ford vans to nonprofit organizations in the Western New York area.

“This program focuses on a great need that is often not top of mind for donors or supporters – giving nonprofit organizations access to safe vehicles,” said Scott Bieler, chairman, Ford Friendship Express selection committee. “I encourage every nonprofit in need of transportation to apply to Ford Friendship Express.”
