Buffalo Stars to Host Rochester Maksymum in a 'Battle of The Thruway Rivals'

The Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey club hosts Rochester Maksymum in an Empire Junior Hockey League game billed as the “Battle of the Thruway Rivals,” Wednesday, January 26th at Holiday Twin Rinks, 3645 Broadway near Union in Cheektowaga.

The warm-ups begin 7:00pm with the game starting at approximate 7:25pm.  The Stars hope hometown hockey fans come out and support them, as their games against Maksymum (pronounced “maximum”, spelled as a play on the club founder’s name Maksymiu) are also known to draw large numbers of fans from Rochester.

This is the Stars’ first home game of 2011 following a series of road trips to New England and Syracuse so far this January.

Checking Lake Erie Ice Depth for Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament

Checking Lake Erie Ice Depth for Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Earlier today, City of Buffalo officials performed an official ice check to determine Lake Erie's ice thickness in preparation for the 4th Annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament, slated for Feb. 11-13, 2011 at Erie Basin Marina.

After measuring various parts of the ice, city crews determined there is anywhere from nine to 10 inches of solid ice. Tournament organizers would like 10-12 inches for the tournament, so things are shaping up well for the upcoming games.
